“He’s the angriest man you’ll ever meet. He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.” – Noel Gallagher on his brother Liam
Ah, to have a sibling! To have someone who’s known you your whole life… who swears they didn’t borrow that top without first asking permission… who knows your deepest, darkest secrets and rarely uses them against you.
The music world is filled with sibling performers and collaborators. This week, we covered our favorite songs by bands with siblings!
Christina’s pick was from super brothers (and cousin) The Beach Boys with their iconic hit, “God Only Knows” from Pet Sounds (1966).
Christine takes us to Spain (again!) with the incomparable sister duo Las Grecas. Their 1974 breakthrough hit “Te Estoy Amando Locamente” appeared on their debut album Gipsy Rock, creating a new genre of mĂşsica: flamenco rock! Y las Grecas son las reinas.
You’re still with us, so that means you must be ready for some more fun and recommendations.
Love and other complicated emotions are in the air in the Brian Wilson bio pic “Love and Mercy.” And get this: the English translation of the Spanish film “Te Estoy Amando Locamente,” about the gay movement in Sevilla circa 1977, is “Love and Revolution.”
And while we make no promises that you’ll love RosalĂa’s live cover of “Te Estoy Amando Locamente” (nothing compares to the Las Grecas original), Christine defies you NOT to get chills from the dance scene in “Las Leyes de la Frontera.”
Because we might not be the people we are today without our siblings, here we are in our glory days of musical discovery.
