Soothing Songs

Sometimes it’s hard to tune out the noise. Sometimes the noise you usually like proves to be too much for your jangled nervous system. This week’s episode focuses on soothing songs, giving you the chance to wind down, breathe deep, and look up at the clouds.

Christina kicked things off with John Maus’s cover of “Hey Moon” from his 2011 album “We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves,” (a reference to French philosopher Alain Badiou‘s “Fifteen Theses on Contemporary Art” for you philosophy heads out there). Christina shared that it puzzled her that someone who can create such beautiful music could also attend the January 6 insurrection, even though earlier this year in an interview he claimed it was “extremely embarrassing” and he “doesn’t support Donald Trump.” Maybe don’t go to far-right rallies, John!!!!!

Christine’s soothing song came to her mysteriously after a time of grief, and provides solace in the times she needs it most. Her pick was by the Brendan Eder Ensemble, “Isn’t it True” from the 2023 album Therapy. This ambient-neoclassical album gives Christine just the right amount of soothing while letting her sit with her discomfort. Just like real therapy!

In case you need desperately need some soothing songs right now, we hope you’ll listen to these tracks. And if your acupuncturist offers some music during your treatment, we hope it’s not these guys!
