Decadence

What makes a song decadent? Is it the banging build-up giving way to a glorious release? The urge to don a banana skirt or surrender to collapse in a bathtub of brandy?

Christine, unsurprisingly, chose this theme and chose it with a song in mind: “Zu Asche, Zu Staub” from the Babylon Berlin television show, performed by Severija and the Moka Efti Orchestra. Ever seen the show? If not, you’re in for a visually pleasing, time traveling treat where you’ll head back to the late 1920s where contrasts abound: shimmer and smoke; sequins and danger; euphoria on the edge of collapse. This show has it ALL. And so does this song!

Christina wanted to meet Christine’s energy, so she picked what she felt was a decadent song… complete with accordions, trumpets, wailing, longing… you get the drift. Christina’s pick is “Prenzlauerberg” by Beirut from the 2006 album “Gulag Orkestar” and wonderful for keeping with the Berlin nod as it’s named for a quaint little neighborhood in Berlin (Prenzlauer Berg).

As always, we’re dying to hear your decadent picks. Cruise over to the Stereothematica Instagram and share YOUR most decadent song. Who knows, maybe we’ll sip champagne together as the world burns down… and we’ll sure as hell need a good playlist!
