Some of you might be thinking we already did this theme, and honestly…fair, but this isn’t our Predictions episode, this is its annoying cousin Greg. And this time we’re leaning all the way into being predictable (though, let’s be real, we’ve never not embraced it).
Enter Christine’s pick and song obsession, courtesy of her friend Jennifer, who sent it over basically as a “trust me.”
“Goca Dünya” by Altın Gün is a perfect snapshot of why predictable can be kind of enchanting: if you know Christine’s taste, which Jennifer apparently does, you know she’s going to get giddy about a transnational Amsterdam-based Dutch–Turkish band that rewires 70s Turkish psychedelic folk/pop/disco into something that feels at once retro and radiant.
And then Christina comes in with a confession that is… extremely on theme: yes, she was emo in high school! See for yourself:

Revisiting her teenage music brain through a thirty-something lens, Christina’s predictable pick is “Never Meant” by American Football.
She discovered the song about a year ago and was (not) shocked she’d missed it when it came out in 1999 (as she was only 11!). It had everything her inner-emo loved: yearning, heart-tugging, and math-rock shimmer (yes, that’s a thing, Boomers). Predictably, Christina has a lot of feelings about this.
And because you can’t talk about American Football without mentioning Friday Night Lights–the only way either of us cares a lick about the sport–enjoy this fun little clip of Crucifictorious rocking out.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose, Jesse Plemons!
