Winter Songs

Ah, winter. That time of reflection on a year gone by… snuggling up by the fire with a cup of cocoa and putting on your favorite Christmas winter music. That’s right, folks. Stereothematica is not team Xmas. However, we do love a wistful, wintry song. So that’s what we’ve got for you this week!

Christina selected the theme based on a round of Music League she participated in some years ago. Her winter song pick? None other than “I Am a Rock” by the melodic duo Simon and Garfunkel from their 1966 album Sounds of Silence. Is it a bummer? Kinda. But isn’t winter?

Christine’s selection hailed from the same year (must have been something going on then…) and ticks all the winter song requirements: gray skies? Yup. Brown leaves? You know it. Wishing you were in LA? You don’t even have to ask. That’s right, she picked “California Dreamin'” by the Mamas and the Papas from their 1966 album If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears. Be sure to watch their performance on the Ed Sullivan Show below. The outfits and lip syncing protests are out of this world.

Feeling a little Bah Humbug yourself? Cruise on over to the Stereothematica Instagram and share your favorite non-Christmas song with us in the post comments! We hope you had a joyous Winter Solstice.
