Most Haunting Use of a Song in a Movie

Happy new year, beloved listeners. This week we’re unpacking some of the most haunting songs used in cinema. Whether you cry when listening to Eliot Smith or transport to another time while hearing Emahoy Tsegue, the right song can make you feel something deeply while watching a movie.

That’s why Christine chose this theme: Most Haunting Use of a Song in a Movie. Movie. Music. Magic! And her pick did not disappoint. If you haven’t seen the 2023 film Anatomy of a Fall, you’ll want to watch it to understand the importance of Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band’s PIMP. The steel drums, the extreme volume, the undertones of toxic masculinity… the song seals the deal for this film.

Christina might have been a little more on the nose… (or on the ear?) with her pick. Yikes. Mr. Tarantino chose “Stuck in the Middle With You” by Stealers Wheel for one of the most horrifyingly memorable scenes in a movie (that she’s seen, at least). If you’ve seen the movie, you know why it’s haunting. And if you haven’t? Maybe don’t watch after a big meal.

That’s all we’ve got for this week, folks.
