No Relation

Ever think there might be an invisible thread holding things together that you cannot see, but perhaps… you can feel? This week’s theme centers on the question, “Are these songs related somehow?” And the resounding answer: “No.”

Christina came up with this theme after hearing her song selection, “Ma Quale Idea” by Pino D’Angiò from his 1981 album “…Balla!” She heard the song and she SWORE she heard hints of none other than Will Smith’s 1997 hit “Gettin Jiggy Wit It,” but after diving down a fruitless rabbit hole, she learned that the songs had… no relation (see what we did there?). Mr. Smith’s song samples “He’s the Greatest Dancer” by Sister Sledge, and the chorus is pulled from “Sang and Dance” by the Bar-Kays, but there was (apparently) no inspiration from our beloved Pino. Have a listen and decide for yourself (and try not to swoon too hard over our hunky singer)!

Christine was perhaps a bit more literal, but took us down one of HER famous side quests to teach our listeners (and Christina) about the renowned Brian Eno. His song, “Baby’s On Fire,” from the 1973 album Here Come the Warm Jets has NOTHING to do with the song we covered in a previous episode, “Baby’s on Fire” by Die Antwoord. But… they probably knew about the Eno song, right??? After all, he’s ubiquitous, as is his influence on music (especially a lot of the music we like!). You’re welcome to decide for yourself (while you jam out to Eno and Fripp).
