Visceral

Music has the power to soothe, excite, stir emotions, or make you get up and dance! And sometimes it elicits a visceral reaction that you weren’t expecting… even after the umpteenth time you’ve heard the song. We’re talking about songs that wreak havoc on your nervous system this week, and Christine picked the theme based on a very unexpected reaction she had upon hearing a song for the first time… and the second… and the third… you catch our drift.

David Bowie’s “Blackstar” from the 2016 album by the same name was the song in question that really unlocked something in Christine. Not only did it compel her to start listening to Bowie, it made her seek out the strange feeling she had when she heard the song for the first time (thanks, KCRW!).

Christina knows the feeling well, too, and she gets it when she listens to “Hyperballad” by Bjork (from the 1996 album Post). Intrusive thoughts be damned, Bjork is painting a picture of a coping mechanism to maintain autonomy while in a relationship. But don’t you also just wonder… what it would be like… if you jumped? Without the negative side effects, that is.

Friends, we’re desperate to know your selections for this theme! If you haven’t figured out which is your “visceral” song, perhaps… tell us about a song that makes you feel funny and you can’t put your finger on why. And if that tickles your fancy, maybe our Guilty episode will be up your alley!
