Resistance is NOT Futile

As we established back in March of last year, all protest songs are love songs! If you’re confused, check out the episode. And if you’re intrigued, join us for this week’s sweeping statement: Resistance is NOT futile. The world might seem like it’s imploding. You might be mad as hell (we are). So join us, and the resistance. We need you. The world needs you. And this music.

Queen Christine picked this week’s theme because not only is it Women’s History Month… it’s a pretty messed up time in our world’s history. So let’s take a lesson from Dr. Nina Simone on making folks uncomfortable to get our point across. Hey, you can still use humor (even when the subject matter is dreadful). Her pick, Mississippi God Damn, might have been banned from radio stations across the South, but it was good enough for Carnegie Hall (see below). And it’s a top pick in our book!

Christina was feeling like a Riot Grrrl when she picked her song: Hot Topic from Le Tigre’s 1999 self titled album. What’s not to love about celebrating bad ass female and LGBTQ artists, writers, activists, musicians, and more? The band shouts out (literally) the people who influenced them, inspired them, and in turn, inspired a new generation of artists. The message? Don’t stop. We need these leaders to keep inspiring the next generations. Because without inspiration we might as well give up. So let’s not!

As always, we’d love to know what song makes you feel that our resistance is working. Won’t you share it with us in the Instagram comments on our page? We love you. Thanks for not being mad at us when we mispronounce words.
