Ten Years Ago

Can you remember what you were listening to in 2016? It was a different world, an end of an era, a sad time, in fact, a shit year, some might say–we say it pretty unequivocally. But the music we listened to provided an escape, relief, and sometimes just a pleasant enough distraction. Join us on this (brief) trip down memory lane!

Christina picked this theme because WHY NOT. We’re all allowed to join in on the trends from time to time, right? Anyway, she was listening to Julia Jacklin and a lot of other female musicians in 2016 and it felt like a good way to honor that time in her life and the women who were making music that was meaningful to her then.

Christine, as usual, followed her own path. Apart from listening to Black Star on repeat, but we already talked about that a previous episode, she was listening to stuff that WASN’T released in 2016. Like Brazilian hero, Gal Costa. Costa’s resistance-filled music inspired Christine well after her music was released in 1969. And we hope she will keep inspiring generations to come.
