Christine selected this theme without so much as an errant thought about any other meaning of the word “horny” even though her artist may have aroused some (or many) of his listeners. With the one and only Fela Kuti in mind, she wanted to share more about Fela’s life while also wowing us with his “Water No Get Enemy” from the 1975 album “Expensive Shit.” If you only take two things away from this episode may it be 1. Fela Kuti is a true musical legend and 2. Yes, he was flawed, but you can learn all about his life (and his badass mom) in the podcast Fela Kuti: Fear No Man.
Christina asked the question, “Is a trumpet a horn?” and Christine graciously answered, “Yes.” Good thing, too, because Christina selected one of Soulsville USA’s best: The Bar-Kays and their epic “Soul Finger” from their 1967 debut album. This group had a wild path to fame that was tragically cut short for many members of the band. But luckily, this hit and many others survive to make the world just a little hornier (because trumpetier doesn’t sound as good).
