Scary Songs Pt. II (from Scary Movies)

Jaws. Halloween. The Exorcist. These classic horror movies wouldn’t be nearly as scary if it weren’t for their titillating scores and soundtracks. This week we dive into two new horror classics (ok, maybe not both are new classics) and talk about how music makes movies 10x scarier. Listener beware!

Christina picked this theme while thinking about the horrifically fabulous trailer for “Us,” the 2019 thriller from Jordan Peele. Taking a 1995 Bay Area hip hop smash hit and turning it into a perfectly creepy orchestral arrangement is no small feat, and composer Michael Abels was just the man for the job. Watch the trailer below (if you dare).

Christine didn’t disappoint with a wicked movie song. The opening of the 1983 vampire movie “The Hunger” features a killer performance of “Bela Lugosi Is Dead” by Bauhaus, and as an added perk we get to see David Bowie’s bare butt in the first 10 minutes of the movie.

If you feel like terrorizing your neighborhood (or just your friends and family), feel free to stream our Scary Songs playlist on Spotify! And check us out on Instagram where you can see what kind of spooky stuff we’ve been up to.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
